This is a native, ‘foraging’ species that moves in groups.

Environment

Still or slow-moving water rich in vegetation.

Diet

Omnivorous. Plankton, larvae, insects, crustaceans, molluscs, algae, aquatic plants, eggs, and fry.

Reproduction

From April to June, the eggs are attached to underwater grasses, and the fry also remain attached to the plants for a while.

Observation in the Reserve

Up to a few years ago, it was abundant in the ‘lamette’ and also present in the ‘lame’, especially following the containment of wels catfish. The latest report states that it is rare in both habitats.
