European Perch

(Perca fluvialitis)

A native species. When young, they move in groups. They are more solitary as adults.

Adult length

Max 35 cm.

Environment

Slow-moving, shallow, clear water with a stony bottom and rich in vegetation.

Diet

Carnivore, a voracious predator.  Aquatic invertebrates and fish.

Reproduction

Females lay their eggs in long gelatinous strips on rocks, branches, and underwater roots.

Observation in the Reserve

Well represented in the ‘lame’ and ‘lamette’, especially after containment of the wels catfish.
