An invasive species originally from North America.

Environment
Still or slow-moving water rich in vegetation.
Diet
Carnivore, very voracious. Insects and their larvae, small worms, fish eggs, small fish.
Reproduction
Males become territorial in spring, preparing a hole in the bottom and clearing it of debris. The females lay a few thousand eggs that are monitored up to about 10 days after they hatch.
Observation in the Reserve
Rare in the ‘lame’ and more common in the ‘lamette’.
