This is a native, ‘foraging’ species that moves in groups.

Environment

Still or slow-moving water rich in vegetation.

Diet

Omnivorous. Aquatic insects and their larvae, small worms, algae, and plant sprouts.

Reproduction

From late May to the end of July, females lay their eggs on the grassy bottom and in small ravines.

Observation in the Reserve

Well represented in the ‘lame’ and ‘lamette’, especially after containment of the wels catfish.
