Large White-Faced Darter

(Leucorrhinia pectoralis)

Protected by the Habitat Directive (Annexes II and IV). This dragonfly is extinct in the Reserve. In its range, which extends from Central and Northern Europe to South-Western Siberia, this species has seen such a concerning decline due to the disappearance of its characteristic biotopes that it is threatened with extinction. Very few stations are known in Italy, and the Reserve was one of the only in which a permanent colony was recognized. In recent years, this species has not been found, despite searches for it. This is why it is considered in limited areas.
