Originating in North America, it is a very voracious, gregarious carnivore that may hunt in groups.

Diet

A very voracious carnivore, it often hunts in groups. Small fish and their eggs, amphibians, insects.

Reproduction

Males become territorial in spring, preparing a hole in the bottom and clearing it of debris. The females lay a few thousand eggs that are monitored until they hatch.

Characteristics

An invasive species originally from North America. Gregarious.

Observation in the Reserve

Common in both the ‘lame’ and ‘lamette’. Its spread in the Reserve is cause for concern.
