The ‘GARD.I.I.A.N – Garda Idro Iseo Acqua Natura’ project aims to improve the functionality of the aquatic ecosystems. It was financed by Fondazione Cariplo through the ‘Capitale Naturale 2019’ call. The leader is the Alto Garda Bresciano Mountain Community, with the participation of numerous partners, including local entities and associations.

In particular, actions regarding the Reserve are divided thus:

1. Regeneration of the nature and environment of the Lamette — Excessive vegetation growth in the outer areas of the Lamette has led to its partial isolation from the lake and a decreased water circulation capacity, resulting in a progressive deterioration of local environmental quality.
2. Implementation of a series of environmental education activities to raise awareness about the underwater ecosystem, which is often somewhat sidelined.

The goal of the first action was to reopen 2 channels between the lake and Lamette (10 m wide, 1.5 m deep), letting the water circulate and allowing fish populations that use the Lamette for reproduction to migrate into this protected area. The work was completed in February 2022, with subsequent monitoring until September 2022.

The second action involved the creation of an educational comic book to raise awareness in schools about issues related to the water ecosystem.
