Cetti’s Warbler

(Cettia cetti)

These birds are much easier to hear than see, given that they love to be among the densest vegetation.

Description

Their upper body is a ruddy chestnut with light stripes crossing the eyes, while the lower body is beige. Length: 14 cm. Their tails are square and the wings are very short so they can move better among the tangled shrubs.

Habitat

They live among the bushes in damp areas, even small ones, riverside forests with dense undergrowth, trenches, and millchases.

Observation in the Torbiera Reserve

A very common species in the peat bogs at every time of the year. They are always moving among the vegetation and since they are very territorial, they defends ‘their’ bushes, even in autumn and winter, emitting a call that has been described as ‘explosive’ by some, due to its surprising resonance given its small size.
