Central path temporarily closed
Torbiere del Sebino Nature Reserve informs that the central path is temporarily closed from the 16 March to the 18 July to safeguard local birdlife nesting and breeding
For the fifth consecutive year, the Torbiere del Sebino Nature Reserve confirms the temporary closure of the central path from the 16th of March to the 18th of July. This is now an established measure guaranteeing greater protection for birdlife during the delicate breeding and nesting periods. Over the years, such intervention has proven effective in reducing the human disturbance and creating more favourable conditions for many bird species that use the area for resting, foraging and breeding.

The decision stems from the implementation of the management guidelines included in the Reserve’s Management Plan, from the opinion of the Reserve’s ornithologist, and from the desire to raise awareness about the relationship between human presence and natural environments. The Torbiere del Sebino is a shared space, inhabited by various wild species that require more isolated and less frequented areas, especially throughout the crucial biological phases related to nesting and reproduction.
Therefore, temporarily giving up access to one of the pathways represents not only a concrete conservation measure, but also an invitation to understand that natural spaces are not at exclusive disposal of humans. Indeed, nature conservation is also driven by small but careful and respectful actions towards all the other lifeforms we share the planet with.
The closure concerns exclusively the central path. The north path, the south path and the path leading to the birdwatching tower will regularly remain open, thus allowing visitors to enjoy the Nature Reserve and to admire nature while respecting its needs. Moreover, the Visitor Centre, located along the north path, will open to visitors during weekends and public holidays.
The reopening of the central path is scheduled after July 18, depending on the outcome of technical inspections assessing the path conditions.
All the visitors are kindly invited to respect the signs and information panels located throughout the Reserve, thereby contributing to the protection of one of the most important wetlands of Lombardy.
